Bacteria and their endotoxins often cause excessive inflammatory responses. This can be seen in various types of wounds, such as burn wounds, post-surgical wounds and in non-healing ulcers. Bacteria can also cause localized infections. In severe cases, released endotoxins can cause an excessive and sometimes lethal inflammatory response, i e sepsis.
Today´s treatments, targeting microbes with antibiotics, are only able to remove the invading bacteria, but they don’t address the harmful inflammation. There is a great and unmet need for new innovative products that can both prevent infection and reduce inflammation.
